Teaching Overview

For me, teaching art and making art are equally important. Throughout my career, they have complemented one another while balancing each other out. What I learn from making art informs my teaching and vice versa. Equally, at both Massachusetts College of Art and Design and at Winthrop University, I have had the rare opportunity to teach a combination of studio art and art education courses. I have been fortunate in each area to teach at all levels, from freshman foundation courses through graduate-level courses and as a thesis advisor. Administratively, I was coordinator of the undergraduate art education program at Winthrop University and advisor for Masters of Art Education at both Mass Art and Winthrop. The graduate programs allowed me to work with in-service K12 art teachers, and occasionally Masters of Fine Arts students, to develop both their drawing and teaching skills.
